Week 1: Getting Started

This week, you will need to
  1. Become familiar with the LEGO WeDo program
  2. Decide on a research or story theme
  3. Choose one of the models to build.
Getting to know WeDo
Look at the table of contents for the WeDo programming manual.  Get a basic understanding of how the models work and the concepts involved in programming your robotic LEGO WeDo.

Choose one of the Models to Build
  • Review the instruction guides to see what is available in the program.
  • Pay attention to the kind of movement and sensors that are part of the design. You may need to find the model in the programming guide to do this.
  • Make sure the project you decide to build can be used in your research theme.
Decide on a Research Theme
  • Your project must connect to a curriculum area.
  • Agree on a topic
  • Sketch an outline for your project to include the LEGO WeDo, other structures, and how you will present your research topic with the LEGO WeDo.
Begin Building
If you finish your sketch, you may begin building your LEGO WeDo.  Do not tear your WeDo project apart at the end of library.  Place it in the box provided.

Remember to update your project planning sheet with the progress you made this week.  Make adjustments to the project schedule, if needed.
